Duryodhana’s Description of Tribute at the Rājasūya
jale nipatitaṁ dṛṣṭvā bhīmaseno mahābalaḥ | jahāsa jahasuś caiva kiṅkarāśna suyodhanam ||
The verse highlights the ethical danger of ridicule: mocking a defeated or embarrassed person inflames resentment and escalates conflict. Even when one’s opponent is at fault, harsh speech and public humiliation can become a seed of future violence.
In the royal assembly setting, Suyodhana slips/falls into water. Bhīma, seeing this, laughs and taunts him with a contemptuous epithet, intensifying Suyodhana’s shame and anger.
