कर्णस्य सेनापत्यं, माकरव्यूहः, पाण्डवानामर्धचन्द्रव्यूहः

श्रुत्वा व्यामोहमागच्छच्छोकव्याकुलितेन्द्रिय: । वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--राजन्! यह कहते हुए ही अम्बिकानन्दन धृतराष्ट्र उस समय यह सुनकर कि अपनी सेनाके प्रमुख वीर मारे गये, अधिकांश सेना नष्ट हो गयी और बहुत थोड़ी शेष रह गयी है, मूर्च्छित हो गये। उनकी इन्द्रियाँ शोकसे व्याकुल हो उठीं

வைசம்பாயனர் கூறினார்—அதை கேட்டவுடன் அவர் மயக்கத்தில் ஆழ்ந்தார்; துக்கம் அவரது புலன்களை கலக்கமடையச் செய்தது. படையின் முதன்மை வீரர்கள் கொல்லப்பட்டனர், பெரும்படை அழிந்தது, மிகச் சிறிதே மீந்தது என்று கேட்டதும் அம்பிகாநந்தனன் த்ருதராஷ்டிரன் துக்கத்தால் மயங்கி விழுந்தான்।
