ज्यातलनत्रेषुशब्दांश्न शृणु कर्ण महात्मनाम् | “कर्ण! बाणोंके भाँति-भाँतिके शब्द, मनुष्यों, घोड़ों और रथोंके कोलाहल तथा महामनस्वी वीरोंकी प्रत्यंचा और दस्तानोंके शब्द सुनो
Sañjaya uvāca: jyātalanatreṣuśabdāṃś ca śṛṇu karṇa mahātmanām | karṇa! bāṇānāṃ bhānti-bhāntike śabdān manuṣyāśva-ratha-kolāhalaṃ ca mahāmanasvī-vīrāṇāṃ pratyancā-dastāna-śabdāṃś ca śṛṇu ||
சஞ்சயன் கூறினான்—ஓ கர்ணா, மகாத்ம வீரர்களின் ஒலிகளை கேள்—வில் நாணின் தங்காரம், கவசம் முதலான பாதுகாப்பு உபகரணங்களின் சடசட ஒலி, அம்புகளின் பலவகை சீறு ஒலி மற்றும் தாக்கத்தின் தட்-தட், மனிதர்-குதிரை-ரதங்களின் பேர்க்களக் கோலாகலம். கேள், இந்தக் கடுமையான யுத்ததர்மத்தில் இறங்கியோரின் உறுதியையும் வீரத்தையும் போர்க்களமே அறிவிப்பதுபோல் உள்ளது।
