ततस्ता: संजयो राजन् समाश्चवासयदातुरा: । मुहामाना: सुबहुशो मुञ्चन्त्यो वारि नेत्रजम्,राजन! तब संजयने नेत्रोंसे आँसूओंकी धारा बहाती हुई राजमहलकी उन बहुसंख्यक महिलाओंको, जो आतुर एवं मूर्च्छित हो रही थीं, धीरे-धीरे धीरज बँधाया
tatastāḥ sañjayo rājan samāścavāsayad āturāḥ | muhā-mānāḥ subahuśo muñcantyo vāri netrajam ||
அரசே! அப்போது சஞ்சயன் அந்தத் துயருற்ற பெண்களை மெதுவாக ஆறுதல் கூறி தாங்கினான்—அவர்கள் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் மயங்கி, கண்களில் இருந்து கண்ணீர் பெருக்கெடுத்தது. போரின் பேரழிவின் நடுவே இது அவனுடைய மனிதநேயக் கட்டுப்பாடு: துயரால் சிதறும் மனங்களை நிலைநிறுத்தி, கடமை-ஒழுங்கை மீண்டும் நிறுவுதல்।
