Droṇa’s sweeping assault and the Abhimanyu–Jayadratha close-quarters episode (द्रोणस्य भीषणव्यचरितम् / सौभद्र-जयद्रथ-संनिपातः)
यत्नमाना: प्रयत्नेन द्रोणानीकविशातने । न शेकुः सृञ्जया युद्धे तद्धि द्रोणेन पालितम्
yatnamānāḥ prayatnena droṇānīka-viśātane | na śekuḥ sṛñjayā yuddhe taddhi droṇena pālitam | āptair āśu parijñātaṃ bhāradvāja-cikīrṣitam |
சஞ்சயன் கூறினான்—துரோணனின் படைஅணியைச் சிதைக்கச் சிருஞ்ஜயர்கள் மிகுந்த முயற்சியுடன் போராடினாலும், அந்தப் போரில் வெற்றி பெற இயலவில்லை; ஏனெனில் அந்தப் படை துரோணனால் உறுதியாகக் காக்கப்பட்டது. மேலும் நம்பத்தகுந்தவர்களால் பாரத்வாஜபுத்ரன் துரோணனின் நோக்கம் விரைவில் அறியப்பட்டது.
