इस प्रकार श्रीमह्याभारत भीष्मपर्वके श्रीमद्भगवद््गीतापवके अन्तर्गत ब्रह्मविद्या एवं योगशासत्ररूप श्रीमद्भगवद््गीतोपनिषद
vāṅ-mayaṁ tapa ucyate—anudvega-karaṁ vākyaṁ satyaṁ priya-hitaṁ ca yat | svādhyāyābhyasanaṁ caiva vāṅ-mayaṁ tapa ucyate || manaḥ-prasādaḥ saumyatvaṁ maunaṁ ātma-vinigrahaḥ | bhāva-saṁśuddhir ity etat tapo mānasam ucyate ||
மன அமைதி, மென்மை, மௌனம், சுயக்கட்டுப்பாடு, உள்ளுணர்வுகளின் தூய்மை—இவை மனத் தவம் எனப்படுகிறது.
अजुन उवाच
True austerity includes ethical speech and mental discipline: speak in ways that are truthful, non-agitating, pleasant, and beneficial, and cultivate sacred study; internally, maintain serenity, gentleness, silence/restraint, self-control, and purity of intention.
