एष चातिरणे भीष्मो दहते वै महाचमूम् । युद्धेषु सदूशस्तात यमस्य वरुणस्य च,'तात! ये भीष्म रणक्षेत्रमें यमराज और वरुणके समान पराक्रम दिखाते हुए पाण्डवोंकी विशाल सेनाको अत्यन्त दग्ध कर रहे हैं!

eṣa cātiraṇe bhīṣmo dahate vai mahācāmūm |
yuddheṣu sadṛśas tāta yamasya varuṇasya ca ||
அரசே! இந்தப் பீஷ்மன் போர்க்களத்தில் மாபெரும் படையையே எரித்தழிக்கிறான்; போரில் அவன் வல்லமை யமனுக்கும் வருணனுக்கும் ஒப்பானது.
