The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts
यां रात्रि जायते जीवो यां रात्रि च विनश्यति । एतस्मिन्नन्तरे यद् यत् सुकृतं तस्य भारत
bhīṣma uvāca |
yāṃ rātri jāyate jīvo yāṃ rātri ca vinaśyati |
etasminn antare yad yat sukṛtaṃ tasya bhārata bharatanandana |
பீஷ்மர் கூறினார்—பரதகுல மகிழ்வே! உயிர் எந்த இரவில் பிறக்கிறதோ, எந்த இரவில் அழிகிறதோ, அந்த இரு இரவுகளுக்கிடையில் வாழ்நாளில் அவன் செய்த எல்லாப் புண்ணியங்களும்—யாகம், தானம், தவம் மூலம் ஈட்டிய அனைத்தும்—சத்தியவாக்கு முறிவின் பாவத்தால் அழிந்துபோகும்.
