The colophon signals the close of a chapter in Bhīṣma’s instruction on dāna-dharma, highlighting that creating gardens and water-reservoirs is a high form of charity because it serves many beings over time—offering shade, rest, and water as enduring public welfare.
This line is a concluding colophon: it marks the end of the chapter titled “Description of gardens and ponds” within the Anuśāsana Parva’s dāna-dharma section, where Bhīṣma is instructing (to Yudhiṣṭhira in context) about meritorious acts connected with giving and sustaining life.
