Cyavana Explains His Tests; Kuśika Seeks Brāhmaṇya for His Line (च्यवन–कुशिक संवादः)
स तु राजा निराहार: सभार्य: कुरुनन्दन | पर्युपासत त॑ हृष्टक्ष्यवनाराधने रत:
sa tu rājā nirāhāraḥ sabhāryaḥ kurunandana | paryupāsata taṁ hṛṣṭaḥ kṣyavanārādhane rataḥ ||
குருநந்தனே! அந்த அரசன், அரசியுடன் கூடி, உணவு இன்றித் தங்கி, மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அவரைச் சேவித்து, ச்யவனரிஷியின் ஆராதனையிலேயே முழுமையாக ஈடுபட்டிருந்தான்.
भीष्म उवाच
Dharma is strengthened through self-discipline (fasting) and humble, joyful service to the worthy—especially sages—showing that reverence and restraint are ethical practices for rulers and householders alike.
Bhīṣma narrates that a king, together with his wife, undertakes a fast and respectfully attends upon the sage Cyavana, remaining intent on his worship/propitiation.
