Vipulopākhyāna—Ruci-rakṣā and Śakra’s Māyā (विपुलोपाख्यानम्—रुचिरक्षणं शक्रमाया च)
भीष्म उवाच क्रिया भवति केषांचिदुपांशुव्रतमुत्तमम् । यो यो याचेत यत् किज्चित् सर्व दद्याम इत्यपि
bhīṣma uvāca
kriyā bhavati keṣāñcid upāṃśu-vratam uttamam |
yo yo yāceta yat kiñcit sarvaṃ dadyām ity api ||
பீஷ்மர் கூறினார்— யுதிஷ்டிரா! சிலருக்கு யாகம், குருதக்ஷிணை, குடும்பப் பராமரிப்பு போன்ற செயற்பாடுகளே விருப்பமாகும்; இன்னொருசிலருக்கு உபாம்சு—மௌனச் சுயக்கட்டுப்பாட்டின் விரதமே உயர்ந்த ஒழுக்கமாகும். ஆகவே எந்த யாசகர் எதை வேண்டினாலும், ‘நான் தருவேன்’ என்ற மனப்பாங்குடன் பதிலளிக்க வேண்டும்; யாரையும் ஏமாற்றி அனுப்பக் கூடாது.
