अध्याय १६ — शङ्कर-उमा-वरदानम् तथा तण्डि-स्तुतिः (Śaṅkara–Umā Boon-Granting and Taṇḍi’s Hymn)
दशनामसहस््राणि देवेष्वाह पितामह: । शर्वस्य शास्त्रेषु तथा दशनामशतानि च,पितामह ब्रह्माने पूर्वकालमें देवताओंके निकट महादेवजीके दस हजार नाम बताये थे और शास््त्रोंमें भी उनके सहस्र नाम वर्णित हैं
daśanāmasahasrāṇi deveṣv āha pitāmahaḥ | śarvasya śāstreṣu tathā daśanāmaśatāni ca ||
முன்னாளில் பிதாமகர் பிரம்மா தேவர்களிடையே சர்வன் (மகாதேவன்) என்பவரின் பத்தாயிரம் நாமங்களை அறிவித்தார்; அதுபோல சாஸ்திரங்களிலும் அவருடைய நூற்றுக்கணக்கான நாமங்கள் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளன।
