यत् तु गोवृषभांकेन मुनिभ्य: समुदाह्नतम् पुराणं हिमवत्पृष्ठे तन्मे निगदत: शूणु,वृषभध्वज भगवान् शंकरने हिमालयके शिखरपर मुनियोंसे जो पुरातन रहस्य बताया था, वह मेरे मुँहसे सुनो
yat tu govṛṣabhāṅkena munibhyaḥ samudāhṛtam purāṇaṃ himavat-pṛṣṭhe tan me nigadataḥ śṛṇu
பீஷ்மர் கூறினார்— காளைச் சின்னம் தாங்கிய கொடியுடைய பகவான் சங்கரன், இமயத்தின் உச்சிகளில் முனிவர்களுக்கு உரைத்த அந்தப் பழம்பெரும் புனிதக் கதையை இப்போது என் வாயிலிருந்து கேளுங்கள்; சொல்லப்பட்டபடியே நான் எடுத்துரைக்கிறேன்.
