Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 115 — Mādri’s request; invocation of the Aśvins; birth and naming of the Pāṇḍavas
इयं च मे मांसपेशी जाता पुत्रशताय वै | गान्धारीने कहा--मुने! मैंने सुना है
iyaṃ ca me māṃsapeśī jātā putraśatāya vai |
வைசம்பாயனர் கூறினார்— “எனக்கோ, வாக்குறுதியான நூறு புதல்வர்களுக்குப் பதிலாக ஒரு மாமிசக் கட்டியே பிறந்தது.” இதற்கிடையில் குந்தியின் மூத்த மகன் சூரியனுக்கு ஒப்பான ஒளியுடன் பிறந்தான் என்ற செய்தி கேட்ட காந்தாரி துயரும் பொறாமையும் கொண்டு தன் வயிற்றில் அடித்து கருச்சிதைவு செய்தாள்; இவ்வாறு நூறு புதல்வர் வரம் விகாரமான வடிவில் வெளிப்பட்டு, குருகுலத்தில் பின்னர் எழும் அறநெரிசலுக்குத் தளமிட்டது.
