Lord Vishnu (Hari)
Dosha: Pitta
Concept: Care of the body and relief of suffering through right application of remedies is a supportive limb of dharma.
Vedantic Theme: Śarīra as an instrument (sādhana) to pursue puruṣārthas; compassion expressed as practical upāya.
Application: Use apāmārga root, well-rubbed and expressed; apply its juice to a wound and dress with ghee to reduce suppuration and stop persistent bleeding.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.188 (medical remedies for wounds and blood disorders)
It advises rubbing apāmārga root between the hands and applying its juice to the wound; this is said to stop bleeding and prevent pus formation, with ghee aiding healing.
The speaker is Hari (Lord Vishnu). In the Garuda Purana’s dialogue framework, Vishnu instructs Garuda (Vinata-putra), though Garuda is not named in this specific line.
As a traditional reference, it highlights plant-based first-aid ideas; in modern practice, treat bleeding with proper medical care and view the verse as historical Ayurvedic knowledge rather than a substitute for clinical treatment.
