Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Śāstric enumeration of remedies: right knowledge applied to suffering is a form of dharmic care.
Vedantic Theme: Pragmatic upāya within vyavahāra: alleviating duḥkha at the bodily level while pursuing higher aims.
Application: Use a decoction (kvātha) of dhātrī, śivā, kaṇā, and vahni for fevers; then proceed to the indicated remedy for jvara with atisāra.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.170.11 (immediately following: jvara-atisāra auṣadha)
It presents a specific, named combination—dhātrī, harītakī, pippalī, and a dīpana (fire-kindling) drug—as a broad fever-remedy, reflecting Ayurvedic therapeutic logic within the Purana.
This verse is medical rather than eschatological; it focuses on treating bodily illness and does not describe Yama’s realm or post-death travel.
It emphasizes strengthening digestion (vahni/dīpana) while using rasāyana-like and warming herbs; modern use should be guided by an Ayurvedic clinician, especially in dehydration or infection.
