Lord Vishnu (teaching Garuda/Vinatā-putra)
Dosha: Kapha
Concept: Śrī (prosperity) departs from one who neglects cleanliness, moderation, gentle speech, and proper daily rhythm—even if he is a Viṣṇu-bhakta.
Vedantic Theme: Bhakti with śauca and sattva: inner devotion must be supported by outer discipline; tamas (sleeping at improper times) erodes auspiciousness.
Application: Maintain personal hygiene, moderate diet, kind speech, and a healthy circadian routine; treat devotion as a whole-life practice, not mere identity.
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bibhatsa
Type: household/bedchamber and daily routine spaces
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.114.36 (expanded list of Lakṣmī-destroying habits); Garuda Purana 1.114.37 (Lakṣmī-restoring practices)
This verse links prosperity (Śrī) with basic discipline—cleanliness, moderation in eating, gentle speech, and proper daily routine—showing that spiritual devotion alone is undermined by negligent conduct.
While not a preta-journey verse, it establishes the karmic foundation: habits like harsh speech, gluttony, and tamasic routine degrade one’s merit and stability, shaping future circumstances and spiritual progress.
Maintain cleanliness, eat moderately, avoid harsh speech, and keep a disciplined schedule (avoid sleeping at inappropriate times); these support both material stability and steadiness in sādhana.
