Vali’s Funeral Rites and the Consolation of the Bereaved
वचनान्ते तु रामस्य लक्ष्मणः परवीरहा।अवदत्प्रश्रितं वाक्यं सुग्रीवं गतचेतसम्4.25.12।।
vacanānte tu rāmasya lakṣmaṇaḥ para-vīra-hā |
avadat praśritaṃ vākyaṃ sugrīvaṃ gata-cetasam || 4.25.12 ||
रामस्य वचनसमाप्तौ परवीरहन्ता लक्ष्मणः विनयपूर्वकं वाक्यम् अवदत्, शोकविह्वलं सुग्रीवं प्रति।
Seeing Sugriva had lost his senses, Lakshmana, the slayer of enemy warriors humbly said at the end of Rama's address:
Dharma in counsel requires both firmness and humility: one should guide a grieving leader respectfully, without provoking further distress.
After Rāma’s consoling words, Lakṣmaṇa takes up the task of directing Sugrīva toward immediate responsibilities.
Lakṣmaṇa’s disciplined courtesy and service-mindedness in crisis.
