Sugriva’s Remorse and Tara’s Lament after Vali’s Death
svarge 'pi śokaṃ ca vivarṇatāṃ ca mayā vinā prāpsyati vīra vālī | ramye nagendrasya taṭāvakāśe videhakanyārahito yathā tvam ||
'O Rama! Vali will experience sorrow and become pale bereft of me even in heaven just as you are filled with sorrow even on a delightful mountain slope bereft of princess of Videha.
It appeals to empathy as a dharmic mode of judgment—understanding another’s suffering by recognizing one’s own.
Tārā persuades Rāma by comparing Vāli’s dependence on her to Rāma’s longing for Sītā.
Compassionate understanding (dayā/karuṇā) as a guide for righteous action.
