Sahadeva and Satyaki on resolve after failed conciliation

Human resolve and ethical judgment can shift with circumstances—hardship in exile, vulnerability in concealment, and confidence after re-emergence each shape one’s outlook. The verse highlights the need for steady, principled counsel (here sought from Kṛṣṇa) amid changing emotions and strategic pressures.
Nakula addresses Kṛṣṇa during the lead-up to the Kurukṣetra conflict, reflecting on how the Pāṇḍavas’ mindset changed across three phases: forest exile, the incognito year, and their public return. This sets the stage for seeking guidance on what course to pursue now that they are openly confronting their opponents.
