Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 50 — Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Appraisal of Bhīmasena (भीमसेनभयवर्णनम्)
Dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca—Sañjaya! tvayā yeṣāṁ lokānāṁ nāmāni kathitāni, te sarve mahotsāhā vīrāḥ. teṣv api yāvanto lokāḥ tatra samāgatāḥ, te sarve ekataḥ, Bhīmasenaś ca ekataḥ.
The verse highlights the ethical weight of individual prowess and responsibility in war: even among many celebrated warriors, a single person’s strength and resolve can decisively shape outcomes, reminding rulers to assess power realistically rather than relying on numbers alone.
Dhritarashtra responds to Sanjaya’s listing of notable warriors, acknowledging their valor but asserting that Bhima’s might is so exceptional that he could be set against all the assembled men as a single opposing force.
