उद्योगपर्व — अध्याय 33: धृतराष्ट्र-विदुर संवादः (विदुरनीतिः)
धर्ममाचरतो राज्ञ: सद्धिश्नरितमादित: । वसुधा वसुसम्पूर्णा वर्धते भूतिवर्धिनी
dharmam ācarato rājñaḥ saddhiṣṇaritam āditaḥ | vasudhā vasusampūrṇā vardhate bhūtivardhinī ||
धर्ममाचरतो राज्ञः सद्भिः शिष्टमादितः । वसुधा वसुसम्पूर्णा वर्धते भूतिवर्धिनी ॥
विदुर उवाच
A king’s prosperity is not merely a matter of power or conquest; it arises from sustained practice of dharma and adherence to the time-tested conduct of the virtuous. Ethical governance makes the land itself ‘fruitful’—abundant in resources and stability.
In Udyoga Parva, Vidura offers counsel on statecraft and moral duty. Here he explains to the ruler that following righteous, socially approved norms from the outset leads to a flourishing kingdom and increasing royal fortune.
