svarga-loka (heavenly world, implied by context)

Educational Q&A

The verse characterizes heaven as a state where mortal afflictions—death, aging, fear, hunger, and thirst—do not operate, and where the usual framework of obligation (kartavya) is absent; only the experience of sense-pleasure remains. Implicitly, it contrasts worldly dharma and effort with a reward-state defined by enjoyment rather than duty.

Sañjaya is describing the condition of a पुण्यात्मा (virtuous person) in the next world, presenting svarga as a realm of freedom from suffering and from the need to perform further duties, emphasizing the fruition of merit as pleasurable experience.
