This line is a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse: it teaches indirectly by framing the preceding Bhīṣma–Karṇa exchange as part of the Mahābhārata’s ethical and strategic reflection before war, emphasizing ordered transmission, textual closure, and the contextual placement of counsel within dharma and statecraft.
The text signals the completion of Adhyāya 168 in the Udyoga Parva, specifying that it belongs to the Rathātiratha-saṅkhyāna section and that its subject was the dialogue between Bhīṣma and Karṇa; it functions as an editorial/narrative boundary marking the end of that chapter.
