Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 137 — Bhīṣma–Droṇa Counsel and the Ethics of Restraint
viśeṣata ihāsmākaṁ nimittāni niveśane | ulkābhir hi pradīptābhir bādhyate pṛtatā tava ||
The verse underscores that when a course of action is ethically compromised and headed toward destructive conflict, nature and circumstance are perceived as issuing warnings (nimitta). Heeding counsel and restraining adharma is implied as the wiser path.
Vaiśampāyana reports that ominous signs are manifesting in their dwelling/camp, specifically that blazing meteors are falling and troubling the listener’s army—an in-story indication of impending calamity connected with the coming war.
