Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 13: Śacī’s Delay, Deva-Counsel, and Indra’s Purification
nahuṣa uvāca—sundari! tvaṃ mayātra yathā bravīṣi tathaiva bhavatu; etad-anusṛtya jñātvā mām upāgaccha; imaṃ satyaṃ sadā smara. nahuṣeṇa visṛṣṭā ca niścakrāma tataḥ śubhā; bṛhaspati-niketaṃ ca sā jagāma yaśasvinī.
The verse foregrounds satya (truthfulness) and accountability in speech: Nahuṣa grants consent but binds the action to verification and insists that the truth be remembered, implying that ethical conduct rests on truthful intention and follow-through.
Nahuṣa agrees to the woman’s proposal, instructs her to confirm the matter and return, and then dismisses her. She departs and goes to Bṛhaspati’s residence, moving the episode toward counsel or verification.
