Adhyāya 12: Devas’ Petition to Nahūṣa; Bṛhaspati on Śaraṇāgata-Dharma; Indrāṇī’s Strategic Delay
एवमुक्तो न जग्राह तद्गच: काममोहितः । अथ देवानुवाचेदमिन्द्रं प्रति सुराधिप:,उनके ऐसा कहनेपर भी काममोहित नहुषने उनकी बात नहीं मानी। उस समय देवेश्वर नहुषने इन्द्रके विषयमें देवताओंसे इस प्रकार कहा--
evam ukto na jagrāha tadgacchaḥ kāmamohitaḥ | atha devān uvācedam indraṃ prati surādhipaḥ ||
एवमुक्तो न जग्राह तद्वचः काममोहितः। अथ देवानुवाचेदं इन्द्रं प्रति सुराधिपः॥
शल्य उवाच
When desire and delusion overpower judgment, even clear counsel is rejected; ethical discernment requires mastery over kāma (desire) and moha (confusion), especially for those in power.
Nahusha, despite being advised, refuses to heed the gods’ words. He then turns to address the gods further, speaking specifically about Indra, setting up the next part of the episode.
