Gālava’s Eastern Ascent with Garuḍa; Counsel on Kāla and Upāya
evameṣā dvijaśreṣṭha guṇair anyair diguttarā
The verse upholds guṇa (virtue) as the true measure of excellence: moral and personal qualities make one ‘pre-eminent everywhere,’ implying that ethical character is a higher standard than mere status or circumstance.
Yuparṇa addresses a Brahmin respectfully and affirms that ‘she’—a woman under discussion—stands out above others due to her many virtues, continuing a descriptive or evaluative passage that highlights exemplary conduct.
