The passage underscores the Mahābhārata’s moral logic of karma: righteous and meritorious action leads to honored residence in Svarga and companionship with divine beings, portraying heavenly enjoyment as a consequence of earned virtue rather than mere chance.
Vaiśampāyana describes a person (contextually, a meritorious soul) dwelling in Indra’s beautiful city, rejoicing with Indra; after many years, he continues for a vast span—twenty-one thousand years—enjoying celestial pleasures with Gandharvas in the presence of Devendra.
