Educational Q&A

The verse highlights a double-edged sorrow: internal strife among one’s own relatives is devastating, yet the lack of capable, well-disposed allies is also deeply painful. Ethically, it urges valuing concord among kin and recognizing the social and moral importance of trustworthy friends.

Vāyudeva speaks in a reflective, proverbial manner, using the example of Āhuka and Akrūra to illustrate how both familial discord and the absence of supportive relations can become sources of profound suffering.
