इत्येवं सम्प्रवर्तन्ते व्यवहारा: पुरातना: । ऋषीणामितरेषां च साधु चैतदसंशयम्,प्राचीन कालसे ऋषियों तथा अन्य सत्पुरुषोंके सारे व्यवहार ऐसे ही चले आ रहे हैं। यह सब ठीक है, इसमें संशय नहीं है
ity evaṁ sampravartante vyavahārāḥ purātanāḥ | ṛṣīṇām itareṣāṁ ca sādhu caitad asaṁśayam ||
भीष्म उवाच—एवं हि पुरातनाः व्यवहाराः सम्प्रवर्तन्ते, ऋषीणामितरेषां च; साधु चैतदसंशयम्।
भीष्म उवाच
That long-established, time-tested norms of conduct (vyavahāra) transmitted from ancient times—especially those followed by the ṛṣis—carry ethical authority and are to be regarded as proper, not as matters for skeptical doubt.
Bhīṣma, instructing on dharma in the Śānti Parva, concludes a point by affirming that the practices he has described are not novel inventions but ancient conventions observed by seers and other virtuous people, and therefore should be accepted as right.
