देव उवाच
Dharma is portrayed as cyclical across the yugas: even a slight decline after Satya Yuga necessitates conscious, disciplined action. The verse emphasizes that those endowed with spiritual authority (addressed as ‘best of Brahmins’) bear responsibility to assist in restoring or supporting cosmic and social order, thereby enabling the ‘work of the gods’—i.e., the maintenance of dharma.
A Deva addresses a foremost Brahmin, assigning him (and his group) a major task in the present time and forecasting their future role. When Satya Yuga ends and Tretā Yuga begins in the Vaivasvata Manvantara, they are destined to become key helpers in accomplishing divine objectives. The passage then transitions: someone hears this wondrous, nectar-like statement.
