ततोडनध्याय इति तं व्यास: पुत्रमवारयत्‌ | शुको वारितमात्रस्तु कौतूहलसमन्वित:,तब अनध्याय-काल बताकर व्यासजीने अपने पुत्रको वेद पढ़नेसे उस समय रोक दिया। उनके मना करनेपर शुकदेवजीके मनमें इसका कारण जाननेके लिये प्रबल उत्कण्ठा हुई
