Educational Q&A

A kṣatriya-king should not abandon his inherited responsibility out of sorrow; he must accept the burden of righteous rule (rājadharma) and, by performing meritorious acts such as great sacrifices, secure both social order in this life and a worthy spiritual destination after death.

In Śānti Parva, the grieving king (implicitly Yudhiṣṭhira) is being urged by Parvata to set aside his inner sorrow after the war, accept the ancestral throne, and follow the guidance already given by Kṛṣṇa and Vyāsa—governing responsibly and performing dharmic rites.
