Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
क्रूरग्रहाभिशमनमायुर्वर्धनमुत्तमम्
krūragrahābhiśamanam āyurvardhanam uttamam
क्रूरग्रहाभिशमनमायुर्वर्धनमुत्तमम्।
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse praises a certain practice or remedy (implied by context) as doubly beneficial: it calms harmful, disruptive influences (krūra-graha) and promotes longevity and vitality (āyur-vardhana). Ethically, it frames well-being as supported by disciplined, auspicious conduct rather than fear.
Vāyudeva is speaking, commending something under discussion as an excellent means to neutralize severe afflictions and to increase lifespan—typical of Śānti Parva’s instruction-oriented discourse on welfare, protection, and right living.
