Educational Q&A

Bhishma frames an ancient exemplum: even the foremost ruler (Indra) must confront formidable obstacles to uphold cosmic order. The verse sets an ethical tone of steadfastness and duty in the face of overwhelming opposition.

Indra rides out on his chariot with the assembled gods to fight Vṛtra. As they advance, Indra sees Vṛtra standing directly ahead, immense and mountain-like, establishing the gravity of the impending battle.
