The verse functions as a colophon marking the close of a chapter whose stated theme is satya-praśaṃsā—praise of truth—situated within Āpaddharma, implying that truthfulness remains a central ethical value even when one is under pressure or in crisis.
This is an editorial/narrative closing formula: it identifies the work (Mahābhārata), the larger book (Śānti Parva), the subsection (Āpaddharma), the topic (praise of truth), and states that the 162nd chapter has concluded.
