The Dove’s Lament and Celestial Reunion
imam arthaṃ purā pārtha mucukundo narādhipaḥ | bhārgavaṃ paripapraccha praṇataḥ puruṣarṣabha ||
The verse underscores that serious ethical questions (dharma-vicara) should be approached through humility and by consulting authoritative teachers, and that present dilemmas can be illuminated by ancient precedents.
Bhishma tells Arjuna that the issue under discussion was asked long ago by King Muchukunda, who respectfully questioned Parashurama; Bhishma is introducing an earlier dialogue as a model and source for the answer.
