विश्वामित्र उवाच स्थाने भवेत्‌ संशय: प्रेत्यभावे नि:संशय: कर्मणां वै विनाश: । अहं पुनर्व॒तनित्य: शमात्मा मूलं रक्ष्यं भक्षयिष्याम्यभक्ष्यम्‌,विश्वामित्र बोले--यदि उपवास करके प्राण दे दिया जाय तो मरनेके बाद क्या होगा? यह संशययुक्त बात है; परंतु ऐसा करनेसे पुण्यकर्मोका विनाश होगा, इसमें संशय नहीं है, (क्योंकि शरीर ही धर्माचरणका मूल है) अतः मैं जीवनरक्षाके पश्चात्‌ फिर प्रतिदिन व्रत एवं शम, दम आदिमें तत्पर रहकर पापकर्मोंका प्रायश्चित्त कर लूँगा। इस समय तो धर्मके मूलभूत शरीरकी ही रक्षा करना आवश्यक है; अतः मैं इस अभक्ष्य पदार्थका भक्षण करूँगा

Viśvāmitra uvāca—sthāne bhavet saṁśayaḥ pretyabhāve niḥsaṁśayaḥ karmaṇāṁ vai vināśaḥ | ahaṁ punar vrata-nityaḥ śamātmā mūlaṁ rakṣyaṁ bhakṣayiṣyāmy abhakṣyam |

विश्वामित्र उवाच— स्थाने भवेत् संशयः प्रेत्यभावे; निःसंशयं तु कर्मणां वै विनाशः। शरीरं हि धर्माचरणस्य मूलम्; तन्मूलं रक्ष्यं, भक्षयिष्याम्यभक्ष्यम्। ततः परं नित्यव्रतैः शमदमादिभिः समाहितात्मा दोषं प्रायश्चित्तैः शोधयिष्यामि।
