महात्मा त्वग्निपुत्राय महाबलपराक्रमौ । महामना मेरुने ही अग्निपुत्र कार्तिकेयको स्थिर और अतिस्थिर नामक दो पार्षद और दिये। वे दोनों महान् बल और पराक्रमसे सम्पन्न थे
mahātmā tv agniputrāya mahābala-parākramau | mahāmanā meruṇe hi agniputraḥ kārtikeyaḥ sthiraṃ cāti-sthiraṃ nāmakaṃ dvau pārṣadau dadau | tau ubhau mahān bala-parākrama-sampannau āsatām |
वैशम्पायन उवाच—महात्मा मेरुः अग्निपुत्राय कार्त्तिकेयाय महाबलपराक्रमौ द्वौ पार्षदौ प्रददौ—स्थिरं च अतिस्थिरं च। तौ उभौ महाबलपराक्रमसम्पन्नौ बभूवतुः।
