युधिछिर उवाच
The verse links one’s aspiration in choosing a spouse with ethical qualities: the desired partner is characterized not only by beauty but also by compassion (ānṛśaṁsya) and good conduct (śīla). It emphasizes virtue and humane character as central criteria, not merely external appearance.
Yudhiṣṭhira is speaking in the Sabha Parva, presenting a reflective, normative statement about the qualities a man seeks in a woman—compassion, beauty, and good character—framing the discussion in terms of dharma and proper values.
