Bhishma frames Shishupala’s provocation not as independent wisdom but as being driven by a larger, divine resolve—highlighting the tension between human agency and a providential order, and warning against mistaking impulsive hostility for sound judgment.
In the Sabha assembly context, Shishupala is antagonistic toward Krishna. Bhishma rebukes him, implying that Shishupala’s urge to challenge Krishna is propelled by Krishna’s own destined plan, setting the stage for an inevitable confrontation.
