Bhīmasena’s Digvijaya and Tribute Return (भीमस्य दिग्विजयः धननिवेदनं च)
मृदज्भवरनादेन रथनेमिस्वनेन च । हस्तिनां च निनादेन कम्पयन् वसुधामिमाम्,जुझाऊ बाजे, श्रेष्ठ मृदृंग आदिकी ध्वनि, रथके पहियोंकी घर्घराहट और हाथियोंकी गर्जनासे वे इस पृथ्वीको कँपाते हुए आगे बढ़ रहे थे
mṛdaṅgabharaṇādena rathanemisvanena ca | hastināṃ ca ninādena kampayan vasudhām imām ||
वैशम्पायन उवाच—मृदङ्गभेर्यनादेन रथनेमिस्वनेन च । हस्तिनां च निनादेन कम्पयन् वसुधामिमाम् ॥
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores how collective power—expressed through armies, elephants, and chariots—creates overwhelming impact. Ethically, it hints that such force and grandeur must be restrained and directed by dharma; otherwise, the same power that inspires awe can become destructive.
A large royal or martial movement is being described: drums beat, chariot wheels rumble, elephants trumpet, and the procession advances with such intensity that it seems to shake the earth.
