vaiśampāyana uvāca | tatastaṃ niścitātmānaṃ yuddhāya yadunandanaḥ | uvāca vāgmī rājānaṃ jarāsandham adhokṣajaḥ ||
वैशम्पायन उवाच—ततः तं निश्चितात्मानं युद्धाय कृतनिश्चयम् । दृष्ट्वा राजानं जरासन्धं वाग्मी यदुनन्दनः । अधोक्षजः श्रीकृष्णस्तं प्रत्युवाच यथोचितम् ॥
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical power of speech at the threshold of violence: when a leader becomes fixed on war, the dharmic response is not silence but discerning counsel—words that can test, restrain, or rightly direct that resolve.
Jarāsandha has inwardly decided to fight. Observing this, Kṛṣṇa—described as eloquent and transcendent—begins to address him, setting up the ensuing confrontation and the moral framing of the duel.
