वैशम्पायन उवाच
When dharma declines, disrespect for elders and the collapse of marital fidelity appear as clear symptoms of social and ethical disintegration; reverence for rightful authority and integrity in family life are presented as pillars of order.
Vaiśampāyana describes worsening conduct among the people: they begin insulting even gurus and elders, though they still refrain from insulting Balarāma and Kṛṣṇa; at the same time, mutual betrayal spreads between spouses, signaling a broader moral collapse preceding calamity.
