भुजान्तरं प्राप्प धनंजयस्य विवेश वल्मीकमिवोरगोत्तम: । कर्णके हाथसे छूटा हुआ वह बाण इन्द्रके वज़के समान प्रकाशित हो रहा था। उसका अग्रभाग बहुत तेज था। वह अर्जुनकी छातीमें जा लगा और जैसे उत्तम सर्प बाँबीमें घुस जाता है, उसी प्रकार वह उनके वक्षःस्थलमें समा गया ।। स गाढविद्ध: समरे महात्मा विघूर्णमान: श्लथहस्तगाण्डिव:

bhujāntaraṃ prāpya dhanañjayasya viveśa valmīkam ivoragottamaḥ |
sa gāḍhaviddhaḥ samare mahātmā vighūrṇamānaḥ ślathahastagāṇḍivaḥ ||
भुजान्तरं प्राप्य धनंजयस्य विवेश वल्मीकमिवोरगोत्तमः । स गाढविद्धः समरे महात्मा विघूर्णमानः श्लथहस्तगाण्डिवः ॥
संजय उवाच
Even the most righteous and capable warrior is not exempt from pain and vulnerability in war; the verse highlights the grave moral cost of violence and the heavy burden of kṣatriya-duty, where steadfastness must coexist with the reality of suffering and consequence.
Sañjaya describes an arrow striking Arjuna: it reaches his upper torso and penetrates deeply, compared to a serpent entering an anthill. Arjuna staggers from the blow, and his hand loosens so that the Gāṇḍīva bow becomes slack in his grasp.
