Yudhiṣṭhira’s Reproach to Dhanaṃjaya
drāviḍāstu niṣādāstu punaḥ sātyakicoditāḥ | abhyadravajjighāṃsantaḥ pattayaḥ karṇam āhave ||
The verse highlights the ethical tension of war: leaders’ commands and strategic intent translate into collective violence by rank-and-file soldiers. It points to how duty, allegiance, and command structure can intensify conflict, directing many toward the single aim of killing an enemy champion.
Sañjaya reports that, at Sātyaki’s urging, contingents of Drāviḍa and Niṣāda infantry charge again at Karṇa in the battle, seeking to slay him.
