कर्णभीमसमागमः | Karṇa–Bhīma Encounter
शल्य उवाच यन्मां ब्रवीषि गान्धारे अग्रे सैन्यस्य मानद । विशिष्ट देवकीपुत्रात् प्रीतिमानस्म्यहं त्वयि,शल्यने कहा--मानद! गान्धारीनन्दन! तुम सम्पूर्ण सेनाके आगे जो मुझे देवकीपुत्र श्रीकृष्णसे बढ़कर बता रहे हो, इससे मैं तुमपर बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ
śalya uvāca — yan māṃ bravīṣi gāndhāre agre sainyasya mānada | viśiṣṭaḥ devakīputrāt prītimān asmy ahaṃ tvayi ||

शल्य उवाच
The verse highlights how public praise and honor can sway emotions and alliances; it implicitly warns that flattery, especially in wartime councils, can distort judgment by appealing to pride rather than dharma or truth.
Shalya responds to a Kaurava leader (addressed as ‘son of Gandhārī’) who has praised him before the assembled army, even placing him above Kṛṣṇa; Shalya states that this public exaltation makes him feel pleased toward the speaker.
