Droṇa and Sātyaki: The Chariot Duel
sādhūn asūyatāṁ ye ca ye cāpi parivādinām | ye ca nikṣepahartṝṇāṁ ye ca viśvāsaghātinām ||
The verse highlights ethical failings that undermine social and moral order: envying the virtuous, slandering others, stealing entrusted property, and betraying trust. These acts are presented as serious breaches of dharma because they corrode integrity, reputation, and the bonds that make community possible.
In the Drona Parva context, Arjuna is speaking while reflecting on conduct and culpability amid the turmoil of war. He enumerates categories of wrongful behavior—especially betrayal and misuse of trust—framing them as condemnable traits even in a battlefield narrative where moral judgment remains central.
