कृप उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical gravity of an act of killing committed despite active restraint by others. It points to the failure of self-control (dama) and compassion, suggesting that cruelty in war is not excused merely by the battlefield context, especially when peers attempt to prevent wrongdoing.
Kripa reports to a heroic addressee that, although the Kauravas and Arjuna tried to stop the perpetrator, a ruthless individual nevertheless killed the addressee’s father. The line functions as a stark notification of a grievous death and emphasizes the perpetrator’s nṛśaṃsatā (ruthlessness).
